College Info/Naviance

The counseling department hosted a Junior Parent Meeting on April 11 to cover information and activities for the upcoming senior year. We wanted to provide a breakdown of the information we covered for all parents who may not have been able to attend

Testing -- 

  • State Testing -- Results from Spring State Testing will be delivered to the high school in late June. Students who scored less than three points on an exam(s) will receive an invitation to the Summer State Testing Retakes. Summer Retakes will take place on July 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, and 27.  Letters will include a testing date and time, along with information on how to RSVP.

College Applications & Resources -- 

  • College Application Bootcamp Sign-Up: August 7, 8, and 9-- Students are invited to register to receive help with college applications. The event will take place over the course of three days with two sessions to choose from in the morning or afternoon. We will go over the Common Application, individual school applications, essay writing and revision, and individualized help with the process. University admissions reps from University of Tennessee, Miami University, and others will visit on August 9to answer student questions. Make sure that your student is ahead of the game by having them attend this free 3-day workshop! Sign-up now to secure your spot!

  • College Application Workshop: August 10-- Students who sign up for the bootcamp are automatically registered for the College Application Workshop. However, this event is also open to all students who are interested in receiving help. Rather than specific times, this will be an open session running from 8:00am- 2:00pm. Students can stop in whenever they are available for extra help. No sign-up is necessary.

  • College Application Help Sessions: Several times through September, October, and November, Mrs. Lyden and Mrs. Emmons will host college application help sessions on in-service days and after school. Check out the Calendar of Events for those dates.

  • Naviance: Log-in with School Email as username & Lunch Code as password

  • How to: Use Naviance to Search for Scholarships - Made for Class of 2016, but still accurate.

  • Financial Aid- Deadlines are changing for filing the FAFSA- Free Application for Federal Student Aid. In order to help our families get the most out of the FAFSA, we will host two financial aid meetings in the fall. Wednesday, August 30 we will have a general financial aid presentation. Tuesday, October 3 will be a FAFSA specific presentation. (Website resources School Counseling Department and theCollege and Career Readiness Site.)

Senior To-Do List -- (More detailed info in presentation or on senior website-

  • Summer Reading & Summer Homework-- The Summer Reading Website and AP Website will list all requirements for summer work.

  • Order graduation caps/gowns in the fall. Look for the email!

  • Senior pictures are due by October. 

  • Service hours are no longer required for graduation. See more information about the new service hours program on website.
